Social Networking: A Purposeful Loss of Privacy;

Hello Fellow readers!

For my research paper, I decided to write about how social has impacted our loss of privacy.  As we all know we live in a world where social media plays a huge part in our daily lives.  Most people prefer to be incognito and remain private about what goes on in their day today.  We have seen the new age of people profiting from having a huge social media following, social media users with a high count of followers are known as either Instagram, Facebook, youtube, twitter famous.  Users with a high social media presence are benefiting from having social capital meaning that being highly active on social media is how they make a living.

Despite having social media fame the tradeoff is having no sort of privacy. Every minute of their lives requires being present on social either documenting their daily lives or always exposing their experiences with the world.  Loss of privacy has become very controversial in today's because an online activity is consistently being monitored and used for profit because information and data is gold. Yet the real concern is how does it affect our safety.

Buzz for Thought?

  1. Social media makes the craziest people famous. They want to go viral and gain a lot of followers because as you mentioned will bring them fame and money but don't really understand giving up their privacy also means potentially giving up their happiness. Their followers want to know everything they're doing (vlogs) and are so obsessed with seeing what they're doing in real time (IG Lives). Thousands upon thousands of strangers just looking at them and they don't know what malicious intent some of those followers can have. It's really sad that people have to give up their entire life on social media to achieve "success". Wealth with no fame is the best. There are many multimillionaires and billionaires in the world we don't even know. They enjoy their fortune without having to give up their privacy.
